Education

From three months old to three years old and all the way through high school, children get attention and parents get coaching so that all in the Roseland Community can better achieve success in classes at school, social interaction among peers and relationships at home. We believe early childhood programs are especially important.

  • Early Childhood. Aware that 75% of a child’s brain development occurs during the first five years of life, Incarnation Place is committed to helping Roseland parents maximize their children’s mental development potential by offering Mommy & Me programs for children 3 months to 3 years and encouraging parents with 3 and 4 year old children in one of the three available nearby pre-K 3 and 4 programs, which are offered for free.

  • Tutoring. Incarnation Place works collaboratively with other Roseland Partners to support the excellent reading and math tutoring program for volunteers at Cesar Chavez Elementary School, which is where most of the Roseland children ages 5-11 attend. The volunteers usually meet with their student or small group for about 45 minutes once or twice a week, and such close relationships develop that it is often difficult to determine who benefits the most!

  • Mentoring. Incarnation Place works collaboratively with other Roseland Partners to recruit volunteers and to support two excellent mentoring programs for Roseland youth and other students attending North Dallas High School. Named “Man Up” for young men and “Ladies of Leadership” for young women, students meet weekly with their mentors, who often play huge roles in helping and encouraging their students to develop self-confidence and high aspirations, and to take the steps necessary to complete high school, apply for a job and/or attend college.

  • Back 2 School Event. In early August each year, Incarnation Place helps to support and staff the annual Back 2 School event led by members of nearby Pilgrim Rest Missionary Baptist Church. Available to all Roseland children, and typically serving over 600 children, each student is provided a backpack stuffed full of writing paper, scissors, rulers, markers, and other school supplies. For entertainment, there are always 3-4 blow-up slides and bouncy houses, along with several food trucks, making the day a great, fun-filled, family-oriented community event.

  • After school and summer enrichment. Incarnation Place helps support after-school literacy and recreation as well as enrichment programming for children 6 to 17 years old. The programs are at the Roseland Community Center which residents call “The Rose.”

Equipped with an indoor basketball court, an exercise and weight room, library, computer lab, several study areas and a large recreation/meeting space, The Rose normally serves a minimum of 75 children, teens, adults and seniors each day. The programs vary from literacy and the arts to basketball, volleyball and dance.  In addition, there are learning opportunities for developing social and emotional skills – specifically, self-esteem, team building and conflict resolution.
